Microsoft Releases Third-Generation Self-Developed AI Chip Maia300, Plans for 2027 Production
Microsoft launched its third-generation self-developed AI chip Maia300, with plans for production in 2027. The chip aims to become the main AI inference system for its products and services. It focuses on improving cloud AI inference performance and energy efficiency, optimizing long context, low-latency conversations, and multi-step agent tasks. Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President of Microsoft Cloud, stated that compared to leading GPUs, its token delivery per megawatt is expected to increase by 40%, and the rack-level token throughput also improves under a 96 accelerator configuration.
